JUNE 1, SUNDAY, 3:00 pm
Baby Bird Feeding Workshop
Leader: Erin O’Connell
Age: Adults

The rehabilitation room fills up quickly with baby birds who are in need of constant feedings over the summer months. This workshop is for individuals, age 14 and older, who are interested in volunteering to help care for these baby birds. Erin will teach the proper feeding and handling techniques in order to prepare the birds for release back into the wild. Free.

JUNE 7, SATURDAY, 10:00 am
Tick Talk!
Leader: Sue Perlotto & Dr. Douglas Finch of Sharon Hospital
Location: Sharon Audubon Center
Fee: FREE

Audubon Sharon, together with Sharon Hospital, present “Tick Talk.” The Northwest Corner is covered with ticks, some as small as a pin head waiting to hitch a ride on it’s next unsuspecting host. During this program, you will get to know the different types of ticks that live in the area and learn how to avoid them while spending time outdoors. Learn what to do if you find a tick on yourself or your child, and gain more information on Lyme Disease, caused by the bite of some ticks. Don’t allow ticks to keep you and your children from spending time in the outdoors! Become informed! Dr. Finch is Doctor of Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases at Sharon Hospital. Sue has worked for the Torrington Area Health District educating people about ticks and Lyme Disease and is sometimes known as the “tick lady.” She is now consulting , and continuing to educate the community about lyme disease.

JUNE 14, SATURDAY, 8:00 am
Morning Bird Walk
Leader: Mike Dudek
Location: Miles Wildlife Sanctuary

Join birder and Audubon Sharon’s Land Manager, Mike Dudek, for a morning bird walk in search of various warblers, thrushes and waterbirds on the Miles Wildlife Sanctuary property. Bring binoculars and/or a spotting scope if you have them.

JUNE 21, SATURDAY, 7-11 am
Birding Breakfast
Location: Sharon Audubon Center

Birding is fun and can also provide valuable data regarding bird populations. On Saturday, June 21st, Audubon Sharon will be conducting a Birds and Breakfast event at the Sharon Audubon Center. This will not be your typical bird walk. Breaking up into teams led by birding experts, we will be spreading out over the entire 1,147-acre property to take inventory of the birds that are using the Sharon Audubon Center as their summer breeding grounds. Not only will you potentially see parts of the grounds that you have never seen before, you will be treated to a breakfast after birding where you can mingle with other birders and compare notes. Birding will begin promptly at 7:00 and breakfast will be at 10:00. This fun event will provide information about the presence of birds that will help guide management activities for the property. This is a free event. Registration is required so that we can set up appropriate teams and so that we are sure we have enough food! Please contact Wendy Miller at 860-364-0520 x 21 or wmiller@audubon.org.

To celebrate the summer solstice, the Nature Store will be having a 20% off sale on all tee shirts and field guides on Saturday, June 21.   No other discounts apply.
