Spring is a time for new growth and the Sharon Audubon Center comes alive with budding wildflowers throughout the property. Come take a walk with botanist Ron Aakjar and learn to identify these beauties.

Gardening Series #4- Container Gardening & Gardening for Kids
Leader: Ron Aakjar
Ages: Adults and Families
This program will cover creating/designing our own containers, what plants work well in what containers, and how to properly maintain these containers. The program will also look at different types of containers, what these containers are made of and what are the pluses/minuses to each of the container types. The Gardening for Kids section will cover how to get kids interested in gardening, creating a gardening space for kids to take care of themselves and how to reconnect our kids with where their food comes from. Everyone will be taking home their own container gardens. Pre-registration is highly recommended. Please call the Center to sign up.

Birdathon
Start with an annual Spring Bird Count, add teams of birders searching for as many birds as possible over a 24-hour period, fold in sponsors to support our efforts and you have Birdathon. This year’s Birdathon is being held Saturday, May 10th, and proceeds are used to support Audubon Sharon’s bird-related activities such as bird rehabilitation, bird research and bird habitat enhancement.
Teams of birders spread out over Litchfield and eastern Dutchess Counties. Anyone is welcome to join a team. For the name of a team leader near you, to set up a meeting time on that day, or to make a pledge, please call the Audubon Center at (860) 364-0520.

Kent River Road Bird Walk
Leader: Bob Moeller
Ages: Adults
Join expert birder Bob Moeller for this walk which has become a tradition for the Audubon Center. There’s no telling what we may see or hear along this beautiful trail that follows along the Housatonic River. Bob will help identify various species of warblers, thrushes, waterbirds and many others by sight and sound. Meet the group at Kent Town Hall and bring binoculars and/or a spotting scope if you have them!

Tree & Fern ID Walk

Ages: Adults and Older Children
There are many species of trees and ferns out there, and they can be tricky to identify. Ron will show us some easy methods to identify the more common ferns and trees found in the area, plus throw in some amazing facts about these incredible flora!
Where is Audubon Sharon?
Sharon Classic Road Race- Saturday, May 3- visit our table on the Sharon Green and meet some of our permanent raptors.
Litchfield Bancorp Community Day- Saturday, May 31 in Litchfield- Audubon Sharon will be holding two ½ hour raptor presentations at 1:00 and 2:00pm
